When Older Americans Month was established in 1963, only 17
Americans had reached their 65th birthday. About a third of older
lived in poverty and there were few programs to meet their needs.

Senior Citizens led to designating May as “Senior Citizens Month,”
prelude to “Older Americans Month.”
Historically, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge
contributions of past and current older persons to our country, in
particular those who defended our country. Every President since
Kennedy has issued a formal proclamation during or before the
of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older

across the country through ceremonies, events, fairs, and other such

French toast or English muffin, cof-fee, tea and

Red Bliss Mashed Potatoes, Capri Blend Vegetables and Coffee Cake
On Wednesday, the 24th we will celebrate Older American’s Month
which will start at 11:00. The Encore Entertainers will be here to
entertain us with a variety of music for all. Our menu will be Potato &
Leak Soup, American Chop Suey, Italian Blend Vegetables, bread &
butter and Ice Cream for dessert.
The cost of this celebration will be your $3.00 donation for lunch.
We will also have a raffle on this day to offset the cost of the
entertainment. You must call 822-9180 to make your reservation.
